September 30, 2015: Facing the Real Threat of Terrorism

By Rob Tenery, MD on September 30, 2015

Between November 4, 1979, when radical students seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran, taking 66 hostages, through September 2, 2014 when American journalist, Steven Sotloff was decapitated after he was abducted in Syria, there have been recorded 45 acts of terrorism in the United States or involving United States citizens somewhere throughout the word. Of that number 42 of the 45 incidences have been directly linked to individuals who profess their allegiance to the Muslim faith.

Published on Daniel Pipes Middle East Forum on November 8, 2006, and authored by Vinod Kumar Sharma, who is Professor at the Advanced Research Institute of the Reserve Bank of India, is the article How Many Muslims Are Terrorists?  In his article, Professor Sharma points out some very disturbing revelations:

There are between 1.2 and 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. Half are women. Less than one in fifty Islamic terrorist acts is actually perpetrated by a female. The overwhelming preponderance of terrorist acts are conducted by young Muslim men 15 to 30 years old. Based upon the most objective data available, at least 60% of all Muslims have the potential to be jihadists by way of their fundamentalist voting patterns. Using these criteria of sex and age reduces Islamic terrorist candidates down to a maximum of one in every seven Muslims.

The rate of Muslim immigration has been increasing since September 11, 2001. Between then and 2013, the United States has permanently resettled 1.5 million Muslim immigrants throughout the United States. Unlike illegal immigrants, legal immigrants are granted lifetime resettlement privileges are given automatic work permits, welfare access, and the ability to become voting citizens.

A Breitbart News review of State Department and Homeland Security data reveals that the United States admits more than a quarter of a million Muslim migrants each year. Secretary of State, John Kerry, on September 20 stated that the United States will accept 85,000 migrants world wide in 2016 and will increase that number to 100,000 in 2017. That number will include many of the Syrian refugees, but not exclusively.

From Professor Sharma’s data, one can project that with the United States allowing about 250,000 legal Muslim immigrants into this country each year, there could be 36,000 potential new terrorists. Add to that number, those who are already here, overstay their visas or cross our borders illegally, the potential is frightening.

Now, we come to the humanitarian efforts of how to address the tragic migration of displaced Syrian citizens and others that are fleeing the turmoil in the Middle East, many, if not most, adhere to the Muslim religion, and reportedly, as high as 60 percent are young adult males. Currently, most are migrating into southern Europe. As sad as their plight is, the reality is that some of them are either or will become terrorists, if the situation arises.

The concern is not only the many more potential terrorists that come into this country, but how to deal with the problems that these potential jihadists could create. It is not just in this country, but all across Europe and Canada. It appears China and Russia recognize this potential and have said no to the migrants fleeing the Middle East.

Currently, the answer in this country is by screening methods of the National Security Agency/Central Security Service and the FBI that target suspicious activities by persons or organizations. To be effective, racial profiling must be utilized. As discriminatory as it appears, concentrating on those who want to impose their beliefs on others by force appears essential in order to protect American interests and citizens. Since 96% of all terrorist activities between 1979 and 2014 in this country or Americans in other countries were by people of the Muslim faith, we are derelict in not looking at this population of potential terrorists more closely.

Racial profiling is not unprecedented. Two examples come to mind: President Roosevelt authorized the internment of Japanese Americans in the United States who lived on the Pacific coast after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Currently, discriminatory security inspections of Arab citizens are carried out at Ben Gurion Airport, other airports and border crossings in Israel. Arab citizens who choose to use Israeli airlines, such as El- Al, Israir, and Arkia, also encounter such inspections at international airports in foreign countries, undertaken by Israeli security personnel.

All these options only chip away at the much more ominous problem--- world domination by certain factions within the Muslim faith. Unless the other 6/7th of the Muslim population, as calculated by Professor Sharma, rise up against their jihadist counterparts, the only choices are discriminatory surveillance, racial profiling or worse!
